Staying Cool and Safe in a Heat Wave

The weatherman on WCAX Channel 3 News says that we are in for a possible heat wave this week. A heat wave means we can expect temperatures to be in the 90’s for the next three or more days. At my house we only have fans to keep cool. I make sure to blow in nice, cool morning air and then draw all the shades closed to keep my upstairs cool and dark. Reflections on being 80 by Oliver Sachs

Oliver Sachs recently wrote a lovely opinion piece in the New York Times Called “The Joy of Old Age (No Kidding)”. As you may know, he is a professor of neurology at N.Y.U. School of Medicine. Dr. Sachs is the author of several award-winning books including “Musical Minds” and “Awakenings”. “Awakenings” was later adapted into a film starring Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams and was nominated for an Academy Award. Visiting the Capital Region

I had the pleasure of visiting the Schenectady, New York branch of Armistead Caregiver Services last week. It was the first time away from my daughter, Lucy, so I was a bit nervous. As you probably have guessed Lucy was absolutely fine and I think the break was good for both of us. It’s a unique group because the focus is support AND education. Summer Cruises

I wanted to let you know about a very cool organization called Celebrating Seniors, which was co-founded by a former Armistead employee, Jeanne Comouche and our current Outreach Coordinator, Diane Way. Celebrating Seniors has a mission which is to create, coordinate and promote opportunities for seniors to come together for social community events and activities.
