If you live far away, schedule a weekly phone call or video chat. Play games with them, either in person or online. I know that you are very busy but taking time...

The Cycles of Life Part 1

Posted on: May 16 2016

We think our parents will always be our parents, in the original sense: they will take care of us, they will always be capable, and we can always rely on them. Unfortunately, as many of us have learned, this is just not true. There comes a time when our roles reverse, and it’s difficult, on many levels. I am new to Armistead Senior Care but I am not new to Caregiving. Unlike my colleagues, Heather, Samantha, and Annmarie, I am not a Certified Aging Life Care Professional. I am a daughter, a sister and a mother who...

April is National Volunteer Month-Spotlight on Dan

Posted on: April 29 2016

It is very fitting that April's last volunteer post is about Dan Feeney, an owner and Board Member of Armistead Senior Care and an owner and President of North Star Leasing Company. Last night was the Vermont Alzheimer's Association 7th annual Reason to Hope Dinner. Dan Feeney was honored as this year's recipient of the Community Leadership and Activist Award. Dan is well-deserving of this award; he has been a community volunteer and leader since he and his wife, Amy, moved to Burlington in 1990. Dan has been a philanthropic force in his community by helping to...

April is National Volunteer Month-Spotlight on Collie

Posted on: April 28 2016

This delightful surprise of a bouquet was hand delivered to the Vermont office by Collie Chambers, another exceptional Armistead Caregiver. As we thanked her and oohhed and aahhed over the beautiful bouquet, Collie told us of her latest volunteer effort: Vermont Recycles Flowers, which is a goodwill branch of Chappell’s Florist of South Burlington. Diane, co-owner of Chappell’s, had the wonderful idea of creating new, fresh flower bouquets from “recycled” flowers, that had been left over and then generously donated from events, functions, and retail stores. The “recycled” flowers...
